Pretty Little Ruffle Shorts

These couldn't be any cuter...or easier!

I had some leftover ruffle fabric from this skirt and thought some shorts were in order.
(Um...Does my 2 year-old-look 5 in this shot or is it just me?? Her legs look crazy long.)

The fabric speaks for itself. I didn't have to do much. I traced some shorts I own and sewed up the legs and sides. Then I sewed a casing around the waist and used a 1/4" elastic (I think. Anyway, it was really small.) I didn't need to make the waist look neat and I didn't need to hem the legs. The ruffles cover up all the raw edges. Yay!
She can wear the shorts with a top to just hang around, or she can wear a skirt over the top to look extra fancy. I TOTALLY love this idea (layering was actually the impetus for these shorts. How cute is it to see some ruffles peaking out from under a skirt? And, who doesn't want their daughter flashing the neighbors as she cycles around the block??)
Yeah, we're diggin' these EASY ruffle shorts.
* A note on the fabric. I found it at Joann's! Shocker! I love the vintage flower look of it and snapped some up. At $16/yd, it's not cheap, but hello 40% off coupon (and no shipping costs) Love those coupons. Keeps me coming in. (Especially now that I have the Joann's App, which saves all my coupons on my phone. Sooo convenient. I admit it: I love Joann's.)

Little Girl Clothes

Yay! We we've had some nicer weather lately, and I finally got the chance to put my daughter in a couple of the garments I made during KCWC!

The first thing I made was this Audrey cape
I originally posted it HERE
I really like the look of this hounds tooth cape with the vintage button. I couldn't be happier with the outcome. And the 55-degree weather on perfect worked well with a wool cape to wear to church.
(My daughter insisted on taking these steps alone, though my husband was, like, ten inches away. Still made me a little nervous. There were about 12 of those steps. Eeep.)
Today, my little girl got to wear her ruffle skirt to playgroup and then out to play. It's a little long on her now, but that only means it'll work next summer too (hopefully).
It's supposed to rain for the next three days, so I'm hoping we don't go stir crazy indoors. These spring-teaser days are hard!

Little Ruffle Skirt

This was fun to make. And relatively quick. Got it done during naptime -- and I am NOT a fast sewer/seamstress.
So, really, it was quick.
I found this ruffle fabric at Joann's a couple weeks ago. Could not believe it. I loved it immediately. I have been ogling it and trying to decide exactly what I would do with it. But, I think, all along I knew I was going to make a little skirt.
I followed Dana's Simple Skirt tutorial and, because this is ruffle fabric that is stretchy-knit, it didn't need to be hemmed (sigh). All I had to do was measure, cut, and insert the elastic. Oh, and I made a little label too. I love the finishing touches. (But I didn't get around to pressing the--one--seam for these photos. Lazy.)

Still trying my best with another uncomplicated piece of clothing for Kids Clothes Week Challenge!
