Explorer Vest ~ Done!

I just finished sewing an Explorer Vest
for my son!
I found the pattern in the book Oliver + S Little Things to Sew.
I'm really happy with how it turned out.
I used a medium-weight outer fabric and a patterned print (by Robert Kauffman, I think?) for the lining. My son's favorite parts are the buttons --- especially the fish button, he says. (Which he picked out months ago and that I saved for a special occasion such as this.)
The vest wasn't hard to do. I think the most tedious part was sewing all the pockets. But I knew they were going to be worth it in the end.
My little guy couldn't wait to get out and do some real exploring with his Explorer Vest. See the mini-flashlight in his pocket? Just in case he should need it.
Oh, I'm just being silly!

I made the vest in the medium size, which I think is for 4-6 year olds. (And my son just turned 4. I think the size worked out perfectly and it'll grow with him too.)

Oh, I should also add that this was my first time doing buttonholes. I practiced and practiced before doing them on the vest. And they turned out pretty well -- though they are slightly different sizes, hence the different sized-buttons. Though this is what gives this vest some individualized character, don't you think?!
I think my next task is going to be making one for my daughter (my son already gave that assignment to me, aww.).
Happy to be linking up here today:

Great job ont he the button holes. I've only ever tried to do them once... it wasn't so good (Rayon is hard to sew with!). Love the buttons! :)
